What Are the Best Things to Do in Louisville in the Fall?

As the summer beings to wind down and cooler air starts to breeze through the city, fall is quickly approaching here in Louisville. Many fall festivities are starting as early as September 1st and it’s crucial to plan out the following months to ensure you have a memorable fall season. Luckily, Heidi Fore has released her 2013 guide to fall festivals from the Kentuckiana area all the way up to Cincinnati. If you are looking to buy or sell a house in Louisville, Southern Indiana, or are looking at homes in Northern Kentucky, be sure to check out some of the festivals highlighted in this article.

On September 1st the city of Newport, KY will be hosting their annual RiverFest, a fun-filled event that drew over 250,000 people in 2011 and is sure to do the same again this year. At RiverFest you will come across delicious food on Riverboat Row and a spectacular fireworks display during the night. Newport, KY is situated right on the Ohio River separating Kentucky and Ohio. It is an excellent area to consider for Northern Kentucky real estate. Right across the bridge is Cincinnati, where you will find the Newport Aquarium, access to several professional sports teams, and some of the best restaurants in the area. Other nearby areas to check out are Fort Thomas Kentucky and Ft Mitchell Kentucky.

Later in the month be sure to make the trip to Louisville’s east-end in the Jeffersontown area for the annual Gaslight Festival. This festival runs a week long from September 15th – September 22nd and includes a car show, 5K run/walk, a parade, a balloon glow, and hundreds of food and arts and crafts vendors. Jeffersontown is a beautiful and lively area with many beautiful Louisville homes for sale. With areas like Jeffersontown, St. Matthews, and Germantown you will have a plethora of choices when it comes to finding a house in Louisville. Other events you won’t want to miss in September include the Ken-Ducky Derby at the Waterfront Park in Louisville and the Louisville Irish Fest at Bellarmine University.

The month of October is no exception when it comes to exciting fall events. The St. James Court Art Show in Old Louisville is a favorite among Louisville residents. Ranked as the #1 Fine Art and Design Show in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazines, the art show has free admission and will be held October 4th, 5th, and 6th. You will experience magnificent art while chowing down on delicious and unique foods. Starting at the same time and lasting an entire week is the Harvest Homecoming Festival in New Albany, IN. At this festival you will find it all: events for kids, parades, Harvest Idol, riding lawn mower races, baking contests, and pageants. Located right across the bridge from Louisville, New Albany is convenient to Louisville restaurants and shopping. If considering a move to Southern Indiana you will find that there are great advantages to New Albany Indiana homes, including being close to the excitement of Louisville.
