GUEST POST: La Coop Restaurant Review Part 2

Today's blog post comes from our very own Sean Fore, listing specialist for the River Valley Group. Sean enjoys great food and living a healthy lifestyle and often writes and reviews about products, restaurants, and much more. He recently visited La Coop Bistro a Vins in Louisville and wanted to share the second part of his experience.

We’re seated immediately.  Front of the house staff is good, and they know their menu.  This  is good because, gun to my head, I couldn’t tell you what makes up a cassoulet, or even how you would go about eating said cassoulet. Also, I’m not well versed in French cuisine because frankly it’s lacklustre, at best.  I feel free to bash the French because of a number of reasons.  1)  I am.  2) see reason #1 3)They have no guns with which to shoot as they have dropped them a long long time ago.  Tangent….sorry...onward.

Bar service is good, very nice broad wine list.  I order a Makers, neat.  Hard to screw up.  Blondie orders something off-menu(Go Valkyries), it was reportedly decent.

You should know something about me.  I have two clones. One is Charlie, age five, the other Sam, age three.  We’re breeding the master race.  Anyhoo, those of you who have young children at home will understand the following.  My kids are addicted, the same way I am to hummus, so I’m not judging, to Disney movies.  There comes a time in a father’s life that he simply cannot tolerate another screening of Cars 2.  Period.  Wanting to broaden their horizons, I downloaded Ratatouille on the IPad, and that was...

GUEST POST: La Coop Restaurant Review

He recently visited La Coop Bistro a Vins in Louisville and wanted to share his experience

The night started out as far from hipster as it gets.  Baby mama and I were all dressed in our fancy duds, heading out, on what I’m sure will be one of the coldest nights in Louisville’s history, to an upscale steakhouse located in the Galt House.  We’ve eaten there numerous times, and by the end of every evening prior to this one, I end up casting a frightening resemblance to Vlad Tepes (it’s ok,feel free to google it).  Teeth stained with blood, wiping the grease away with my bare hand, gulping down a nice Chilean merlot because “it pairs nicely with beef” and not because I’m a lush. Eventually, while clutching my old 96 ‘er tee shirt we stumble  to the cab or hotel room.  Happy.  Full.  Buzzed.

Did I mention how cold it was?  The thermometer in the milf-mobile was reading 2 degrees.  FAHRENHEIT.  Chivalry being very much alive in my heart, I dropped off said milf at the entrance to the steak house that shall remain nameless, so she wouldn’t be exposed to the face crackling, hair freezing, you-know-what shriveling into your throat downtown Louisville wind.  I park and am sprinting toward the entrance when my phone rings.  Closed due to water main break.  It’s that cold outside.  We run back to the milf mobile,...

GUEST POST: Review of Corner Cafe

Today's blog post comes from our very own Sean Fore, listing specialist for the River Valley Group. Sean enjoys great food and living a healthy lifestyle and often writes and reviews about products, restaurants, and much more. He recently visited Corner Cafe in Louisville and wanted to share his experience.

Bookended by a laundromat and a goodwill, across the parking lot from a bar where this author has many wasted and misspent hours cheering the Pittsburgh Steelers to victory, and sometimes defeat, sits the nondescript, unassuming, and utterly fantastic Corner Cafe. Every time, and I do mean every time, they knock it out of the park.  Every time, I’m embarrassed that I don’t patronize it more.  I’m a local.  I’m from Louisville, it’s 10 minutes from my house.  What’s the matter with me?

I tend to think of large menus as always being poorly done.  They are most likely all dishes that are variations of three things: pork, beef and chicken.  30 pieces of flare, and ridiculous decorations on the wall…..snore.  What the Corner Cafe does is what I’ll call ‘fresh diversity’.  I’m no professional critic, and I can taste the difference between fresh and frozen.  It’s as easy as Olive Garden v Ray Parella’s (I know, I know it’s closed, simply making a point).  Italian, seafood, cajun, pizza.  Yep, and not just spaghetti, and jambalaya either.  Osso Buco, Shrimp and grits with red-eye gravy and country ham bits, you say?  Well, let me just take off my vegan shoes and partake in the delightfully carnivorous festival of meat. (In all seriousness, I had the mediterranean wrap- hummus, spinach, olives, tomatoes, no feta).

It’s worth...

GUEST POST: Review of Harvest Restaurant

Today's blog post comes from our very own Sean Fore, listing specialist for the River Valley Group. Sean enjoys great food and living a healthy lifestyle and often writes and reviews about products, restaurants, and much more. He recently visited Harvest in Louisville and wanted to share his experience.

Farm to table, as I understand it, is a relatively new concept.  The spike of fuel prices and the ensuing skyrocket of food costs threatened the existence of more than a few hometown eateries.  The curtain was pulled back on another dilemma during this period.  What damage do we cause the environment because we can’t seem to live without our Omaha Steak, or fresh Maine lobster??  What’s the “carbon footprint” of the menu items we’re reading through on our night out on the town?

An interesting and creative solution was sought, and the concept of “farm to table” was born.  It especially took hold in Louisville as a re-birth of an area of town that was, until recently, routinely the scene of many vagrancies committed by the area’s inhabitants.  A few short years later, NewLou (NuLu) was born.  New Louisville, very hip, very trendy, very unique, and, because we’re in Louisville, very restaurant heavy.

While on a warm summer night, with a knockout blonde on my arm, I find myself exploring NuLu, and therefore it’s collection of eclectic shops, while sipping bourbon, and viewing a photography exhibit on the beauty of the pregnant female form, it occurs to me that I could eat.  I look around and see no less than 10 establishments.  Harvest.  Hmm, sounds, well, gulp, local.

Nice entrance, old yet new...ambience is strange.  Large portraits on the wall.  The centerpieces are sicks in vases of water.  Weird....

Bill Nye Coming to Kentucky in February

Bill Nye “the Science Guy” is coming to Kentucky next month! On February 4th Nye will be coming to the Creation Museum to debate with Ken Ham, founder of the Creation Museum. Ken Ham posted on Facebook earlier this week that the former science TV show host will be at the museum in February, which has made headlines across the country.

Ham issued the debate after seeing Nye’s video from last year pertaining to how creationism was bad and inappropriate for children. The video made a great deal of noise, drawing over 6 million views on YouTube. The event is titled “Is Creation A Viable Model of Origins?” and will be open to the general public.

Prices and the time for the event have not been finalized. To read the announcement by Ken Ham in full check out his blog titled ‘Around The World with Ken Ham’.

The Creation Museum is located in Northern Kentucky, not far from downtown Cincinnati and the Ohio River! There are beautiful homes in Northern Kentucky, including homes in Hebron, houses in Union, and condos in Covington, KY. Call Lori Hernandez today at (502) 377-9217 to learn more about the area and to schedule a private showing at your convenience!
